Media & Politics. Should the Delegates be Unbound?

Media & Politics. Should the Delegates be Unbound?

These two topics are extremely relevant in this election cycle
and the topic for today's
Academic seminar and small group discussion

Bullet points from Seminar
Reporter John Kosich not John Kasich presented on the role of the media.

Kosich emphasized the difference between national and local media.

  • The national media are like scavengers in that they and are ruthless to get information for a story then pack up and leave days later.
  •  Oftentimes when a story reaches national significance the national media pushes, pulls, and forces victims or parties involved to give information.
  •  Local reporters are left to pick up the pieces because that individuals perception of the media could be dramatically shifted.
Breakout Group
One group with multiple points of view from all over the country.
Unbind the Delegates?
In breakout group we where divided into two groups. Unbind the delegates or don't unbind the delegates. Interesting discussion ensued.
  • Back in the day the party's nominee was decided at the convention and sometimes it went against the will of the people.
  • Some students who live in states with primary elections did not have an opportunity to vote for the candidate of their choice because Trump was the only one left. The delegates could reflect this through being unbound.
  • Trump was an unconventional candidate, but he did win fair and square by the rules and by unbinding the delegates it would lead to greater disunity and provide Trump with more anti-establishment ammunition.
Tomorrow I will be the first meeting for my state delegation fieldwork assignment!

How would you pose with Trump?
